DOWNSTREAM by Dr. Juliette Becquet, is a Protect Our Winters project and supported by icebreaker. This white paper explores the effects of glacier retreat on three major rivers: the Rhône (Europe), Columbia (North America), and Waitaki (New Zealand). It highlights how climate change threatens water availability, biodiversity, and human activities reliant on glacier-fed rivers. Through case studies and expert insights, the report outlines challenges and solutions, from sustainable agriculture to hydropower adaptation. DOWNSTREAM aims to raise awareness and drive action within the outdoor community and beyond to protect these vital ecosystems in a rapidly changing climate.
